Beginning in November, all 5th grade students in Grand Rapids Public Schools will be reading this book and blogging about their reading experience. There will be questions posed to the students, posts written and shared from different classrooms and four "Great Days of Blogging". The final celebration will be held with a visit from the author in March 2016.

Rags or Riches
Esperanza's old life is very different from Isabel's life. Which one of their lives would you prefer and why?
I would be Isabel's life because she seems to know how to do somethings like doing laundry, changing diapers. So i prefer Isabel’s life instead of Esperanza.
I would choose Isabel because Esperanza lost her father and I don’t want to lose my father. Another reason why I would choose Isabel is because she doesn’t even know how to sweep! When I was six years old I knew how to sweep. That's why I would choose Isabel’s life not Esperanza’s.
I would prefer Esperanza’s life because she mostly had everything. She owed land and had servants around the house and i could relax i could play around by the lake. But most of all i could of learned how to clean a diaper dishes and all of that. Stocking Elementary School
The life i wanna pick is Esperanza life because she learned a lot of things from isabel and Esperanza learned how to shrub a diaper, and do the laundry for isabel why she was gone because if isabel wouldn't of told her she maybe would of forgot or maybe didn't know what to do because isabel asked Esperanza to do the pins which is like hanging up their clothes outside and so they could dry and Esperanza had to learn more things from Isabel because ii think isabel was gone a lot and wanted Esperanza to watch her babies Stocking Elementary
I prefer Isabel because Isabel knows how to broom, wash close and pin diapers than Esperanza. And Isabel is more smarter than Esperanza because maybe Isabel's family tot how to do those things.
If I had to choose between Esperanza’s old life or Isabel’s life I would choose Esperanza’s old life because I wouldn’t have to do all the work and I wouldn’t have to wash rags. but in Isabel’s life she has to clean all day wash rags and other stuff that doesn't involve much fun. I choose rags because Isabel seems happy for the littlest things.She did not have to worry about someone robbing her house or worrying about when her papa is late coming home. Esperanza’s old life is kind of messed up. She was escorted around the beggars and the peasants always walked a distance from her and her family. She went to a private school and always have people do stuff for her. While Isabel always did stuff for others and herself. Isabel is also about to go to a public school with her best friend. I would prefer Esperanza's old life because she lived in a big house with maids and she could just have fun everyday instead of washing clothes and picking crops.
I would pick Esperanza because she was very rich she was the only child she basically got everything she wanted until her dad died and Tio Luis came around and just messed everything up and tried to marry Mama so then they moved and now Esperanza and her family is a servant. And now she probably don’t like her life now sense papa died.

I would be Isabel because you have to take responsibilities because In life you can’t always be a princes. And you need to know when things get hard you are going to have to wash clothes and sweep floors and things like that. So I would be Isabel In this book esperanza Rising. And also I wouldn’t be esperanza In this passage because esperanza Is lazy. She don’t even know how to sweep or hold a broom.
I would prefer Esperanza’s life because before she had servants and also have good stuff that she can get what she wants and also she was like the queen of the house and also that she was rich and not poor and that I could play around and relax and didn’t even have do any of the work. I would want Esperanza’s previous life because she had every thing that was fancy and she didn’t have to do anything she had people that worked for her. A reason I wouldn’t want to life in isabel’s life because they didn’t have any privacy toilets and you had to live in really small cabins that only had two beds and beds that are big enough for a small cot to fit in that’s why I would choose Esperanza’s previous life instead of isabel’s life
If I were to have Esperanza’s previous life I live on a ranch that has over 1000 acres of land. I also could do whatever I wanted to. I would get a doll every year on my birthday. I would go to a private school and have many friends. Also I wouldn’t need to do anything. Last, I could have as many grapes, papayas, figs, guavas and cantaloupes as I wanted. But if I live like Esperanza I would not know how to sweep, change a baby’s diaper or even do laundry. But if I live like Isabel I would be dirty and not have nice things. I would also be a worker. So I don't know whose life I would rather have.
I would prefer Esperanza life because before she had servants . her life was good she was like a queen and her beautiful dress,parties,and private school,and her beautiful dolls her papa bought for her.

I would have would have Isabel’s life because i would know how to do easy things like sweep wash clothes and do other easy stuff and Esperanza does not not know how to do all that.Also Esperanza’s dad died and her house got burned down and she only gots the doll her papa.
I will prefer is Isabel because i know how to work it will be nice to be rich like Esperanza but does not know how to clean she has servants Esperanza so i pack Label.

I would choose Isabel's life because Esperanza went through a'lot of things between loosing her father and Ti'o Luis trying to marry her mom and send her of to boarding school ,and she would only see her mom on the weekends
I would prefer Isabel's life because I would be poor but I surely would know how to do chores and do what my mom needs me to do at my home chores.I would also prefer Isabel's life because I would have fun playing with the babies and being responsible for them.I also would want Isabel's life because I would have the same wishes as she has to go to school and learn a different language which would be English.
I would rather be in Isabel's life because Esperanza's uncle is trying to marry her mom because his brother died. And he was envy of his brother because of what he had.
