Beginning in November, all 5th grade students in Grand Rapids Public Schools will be reading this book and blogging about their reading experience. There will be questions posed to the students, posts written and shared from different classrooms and four "Great Days of Blogging". The final celebration will be held with a visit from the author in March 2016.

Comparing Yourself
When Esperanza begins her journey to the Rodriguez's ranch, what is she giving up? Compare yourself to Esperanza. Have you ever had to give anything up?
Esperanza is giving up her hole life by leaving her school and her friends and most important is her dad. I never had to experience what she have gone throw.
What Esperanza gave up is her childhood, friends, abuelita, papa, and school. Yes I had to give up something in my life I had to give up my two grandma’s and one of my grandpa’s. I used to play with them and they also took me on their horse in Mexico that was my favorite thing to do in Mexico.

Esperanza and I are similar because I gave up those things too when I moved to Grand Rapids,Michigan. I gave up all my family , my favorite cat, my school, my best friend Sharonda, and the warmness of Texas. Stocking Elementary
Esperanza is leaving behind her friends, her school and Abuelita. She also feels like she is leaving behind her papa. I have not been in a similar situation but my grandparents have been. My grandparents came from a different country and had to leave a lot of things behind like their houses, families, and friends too.

like esperanza I had to give up my friends when they moved and also when I moved. I might switch schools but it would be too hard going from ceadar springs to gr to go to the mall with my cousin stocking school

like Esperanza I have given something I care about I have had to give up my home unlike Esperanza it wasn't burned down but I had to move I was giving up my memories the different scents of snakes and many other odd animals I also lost my friends every once in awhile I get to go back but there's just slightly painful memories and nobody I know is there any more

And what i gave up was my dog to my mom’s friend and then my mom’s friend gave it to his mom and then she couldn't take care of my jazz, and me and my mom were very nice about it...

The things that Esperanza gave up was her house because Tio Luis burned down their house because Esperanza’s mom refused to marry him and after he burned down the house she said yes to his proposal. Another thing Esperanza gave up was her dad because a day before her 13th birthday her dad passed away. Something I lost was my grandmother because she passed away when I was six years old and I was devastated when I found out about her death.

How Esperanza gave away up her childhood is from when her papa had died and he was very special to Esperanza and the way I’m relate to Esperanza is by when my little cousin died and my granddad died also and I never met him and me and Esperanza is a little a like.

I remember that when I was a little girl my mom me and my brother had to move to Michigan after my dad died.Like Esperanza had to move away and because her dad also died.that is how i compare Esperanza to my true life story.

Esperanza left Abuelita and Rancho De La Rosa in Aguascalientes. I left my old school in Kent City and moved all the way to Grand Rapids so i left my old friends and made new ones.Gabriela from campus.
