Beginning in November, all 5th grade students in Grand Rapids Public Schools will be reading this book and blogging about their reading experience. There will be questions posed to the students, posts written and shared from different classrooms and four "Great Days of Blogging". The final celebration will be held with a visit from the author in March 2016.

Why do Mama, Esperanza, and Hortensia have to leave at night hidden in a wagon?
Esperanza,Mama And Hortensia had To Leave At night Because Mama Didn't Want To Marry Tio Luis. And That Way Tio Luis Wouldn't See Them Because It Would Be night.
They had to hide in a wagon so Tio Luis wouldn't see them so mama wouldn't have to marry Tio Luis.They stop every few hours to stretch so they wont get craps.

Esperanza,Mama,and Hortensia left in a wagon because she didn't want to be married to Tio Luis. They traveled in the wagon so they can go to the United States.;)
When they don't want to marry TIO Luis and they want to runaway because they call him annoying but they ran in the wagon.Mama wants to some where in California.
Esperanza did not wanted to go to California whit tio Luis. She did not wanted to live the rancho and she did not wanted to live abuelita also she said that papa wood't let them go t California and she said that abuelita was going to agree whit papa and papa wood't let mama git marry whit tio Luis.Esperanza said that she did not wanted to live the rancho and mama said they ware going to have a better life and Esperanza steel did not wanted to go to California Esperanza wanted to stay whit abuelita and mama and she wanted to stay whit papa when papa died Esperanza was crying and she want papa back
Hi I'm Nya Williams from campus Elementary and why hortensia and mama and Esperanza hidden in the back of the wagon is because they didn't want to be seen by anyone.
they didn't wanna be seen by Tio Luis or Tio Marco,because if they do they will make there life a miserable and another reason is so they can get to the train without getting seen.Gabriela from campus.

Because if tio Luis for understanding out they were leaving he would get mad and do something bad to there family so that is why they went in a wagon and so nobody would follow them and then they would know we're they really going
