Beginning in November, all 5th grade students in Grand Rapids Public Schools will be reading this book and blogging about their reading experience. There will be questions posed to the students, posts written and shared from different classrooms and four "Great Days of Blogging". The final celebration will be held with a visit from the author in March 2016.

Characters
Do the characters in the novel see the move to America as positive change or negative change? Site evidence.
This is Nya Williams from campus Elementary I think the move to America has been negative because mama has amona and papa died and Abuleta is too far away.
At first it was a negative change because of Esperanza's rivalry between Marta and Esperanza but then Esperanza got a job and Esperanza's rivalry with Marta started to fade and they soon became friends when Esperanza realised how Marta lived
i think for Esperanza it is not a positive move because sh is going to miss her home in Rancho de las Rosas but fo mama it is okay because she is getting away from tio Luis
I think it's both positive and negative because Esperanza was upset that she isn't in El Rancho De Las Rosas anymore.Esperanza is also positive because Mama and her have a new life and Papa would have wanted them to move from Mexico to have a better life Hannah Sherwood Mrs.Thayer
I see it as a negative change because the reason they had to move to CA is because of Tio Luis wanting to marry Mama and he begged her to say yes by saying "I will make you a better bigger house" and Mama finally Mama said "yes i will marry you"
