Beginning in November, all 5th grade students in Grand Rapids Public Schools will be reading this book and blogging about their reading experience. There will be questions posed to the students, posts written and shared from different classrooms and four "Great Days of Blogging". The final celebration will be held with a visit from the author in March 2016.

Why are Mama and Esperanza so emotionally affected by the rose bushes Miguel and Alphonso plant? Cite evidence.
Esperanza and mama was sad because they miss papa. Papa died and the rose bush reminded Esperanza and mama about papa's death. Esperanza and mama were very sad when papa died.

Esperanza and mama was sad because they miss papa,so when they look at the bush they think about him,and they cry. They thought that Tio'Luis killed papa and he tried to marry her , so the moved to the United States.
Mama and Esperanza were so emotionally because Miguel and Alphonso brought a rose from papa's garden although it was brunt down. Miguel and Alphonso had found a rose underground and when they were on the train every time the train stopped they went to get water for the plant.
