Beginning in November, all 5th grade students in Grand Rapids Public Schools will be reading this book and blogging about their reading experience. There will be questions posed to the students, posts written and shared from different classrooms and four "Great Days of Blogging". The final celebration will be held with a visit from the author in March 2016.

Your Impressions
What are your impressions of the novel Esperanza Rising?
My Impressions was I really like this book and It's kinda sad because of what Is going on with mama, but In this story esperanza Is very lazy. but In life It comes a time where you are going to have to move or get kicked out. Or something bad Is going to happen to you.
I like the book Esperanza Rising because it tells about Esperanza and all the struggles she has to go thru while she moves to the U.S. She has to do a lot of things like work on the fields so she can get money for Abuelita her grandma to get to the U.S. She has to take care of her mama while she is in the hospital. She also has to try to keep her job while more people are coming for work and others are striking.
I love this book. it is a good drama and an interesting story to read about. Esperanza is facing something that could happen to someone. It is super cool and amazing! Stocking Elementary
My impression on this novel is it’s sad because Esperanza’s dad died and her grandma sprained her ankle and her mom is sick with pneumonia. Stocking Elementary
My impression on this novel is I think that this novel has a lot of emotions one of the emotions is sad the reason I think it is sad is because her family is falling apart. Stocking Elementary
My impression on this novel is it makes me sad that her papa died & it also makes me happy because her mom was about to marry Esperanza's uncle but her mom manged to make a plan to escape from Tio Louis and Esperanza and her mom will be together for life now . this is Alex Diaz from Dickinson school

My impression is kinda sad, because Esperanza is going thru something really sad. 1st her dad died, 2nd grandma twisted her ankle and 3rd her mom is sick.
My impression is happy!... then sad because her dad died and her mom had to marry Tio Luis so Esperanza and her mom had to flee and live in a poor environment and her mom got sick and almost died
I love this book!My impression is happy and sad at the same time because Esperanza lost his dad and El Rancho de las Rosas burned and Esperanza' mom had to marry Tio Luis so that is when Esperanza and her mom had to flee to Mexico and Esperanza was sad to leave her friends.Also it is happy because Esperanza met new friends there. also it is sad because her mom caught an illness.
My impression is having a bad life if I was Esperanza because she had has a lot of stuff happening just like when Mama got ill by the sand and now she is in the hospital.Also when their house got burned and Papa had died and she also wished she had her old life back.She also has to do all the chores now because Isabel went to school and learn English.
This is of good book it goes from sad to angry to happy to aerated just like real life. i like it because it feel like you're in the book
