Beginning in November, all 5th grade students in Grand Rapids Public Schools will be reading this book and blogging about their reading experience. There will be questions posed to the students, posts written and shared from different classrooms and four "Great Days of Blogging". The final celebration will be held with a visit from the author in March 2016.

After the Dust Storm
After the dust storm, Momma is the only one of the workers in the cabin to become ill. How does her illness affect Esperanza?
Mama's illness affected Esperanza because Esperanza have to grow older she had no other role model to guide her in the right direction rhyming horses see it was there but she was always so busy working with the babies and the household she has to keep her peace, and keep her emotions inside
mamas illness affects Esperanza because mama is the only person she has left besides Miguel Abulita is to close because of how old she is this can affect Esperanza's life because of all these people dying she wont have nobody to talk to like kids can go to there parents but who will she have to talk to? Esperanza could get valley fever and end up going to the hospital from so much stress. This could have an affect on Esperanza to have a very abysmal life aniya from campus elementry.

after the dust storm Esperanza's mom was still coughing and its been a few months and everyone was better days later she was still sick so they called the Docter she had something like the flu.but worse. more days later she was in the hospital so Esperanza had to find a job work hard and pay her moms hospital bills.
The illness of her mom affects Esperanza because her mom could die and her dad already died.Also that's her only parent except for her grandma.And Esperanza cares about her mom because she finished her grandma's blanket and put it on her mom so she can get better and feel better.
