Beginning in November, all 5th grade students in Grand Rapids Public Schools will be reading this book and blogging about their reading experience. There will be questions posed to the students, posts written and shared from different classrooms and four "Great Days of Blogging". The final celebration will be held with a visit from the author in March 2016.

Change
What does the change in Esperanza's hands symbolize?
Esperanza is very sad because her mom is sick because of the dust storm. Esperanza is working to get some money.And she miss her mom and Esperanza she is taking care of the babies. And she wants to get more then 3 weeks of her work to pay mom at her hospital.
She works on the fields now because her mom is sick and she wants Abuelita to come.Her hands symbolize that she is poor and she is no longer sick like she thought she was. She tries to use the Avocado to make her hands soft,but they stay like a poor and she would never have the hands of a wealthy woman no matter how she tried.

Esperanza's hands used to be soft and smooth which mean't that she was rich. So now when she is working her hands were worker hands which that mean't that she looked poor.
Esperanza`s hands symbolize that she is sad,poor,and working.She is sad because her mom is weak,and might be in the hospital and make it,or she might not and die
