Beginning in November, all 5th grade students in Grand Rapids Public Schools will be reading this book and blogging about their reading experience. There will be questions posed to the students, posts written and shared from different classrooms and four "Great Days of Blogging". The final celebration will be held with a visit from the author in March 2016.

Name a character and give descriptions of them. Tell us why you chose that character.
I picked Abuelita cause she is very delightful,peaceful she is nice,loving and kind. Abuelita I think is not selfish like Tio Lauisand she is very joyful.She is amazing brave because she whant to be nice to others.She is very appreciated cause she is not mean like Tio Lauis😡
I think Esperanza character trait is happy and loving and caring because in the first part of the story she gave toys to the kids that didn't have no toys.Her trait change because she have gone Riches to Rags
The person I am writing about Tio Luis.In the book it says he tried to marry Esperanza's mother.He is a rude,mean and selfish man.My class thinks him and his brother killed Esperanzas dad,and because of him poppa did not return to his daugther or wife.
I choose Esperanza she is a very special person in the story .She is kind ,and she will not let anything get in her way .She has a very unique style.Also Esperanza she seems to have a brightness in her and she wants to express with others. Also she had some problems but she learned to face them.
And i think she has a very unique personality and she really do know how to face her problems and she loves memorable things that papa has bought her before he died.And i think every time she play with that doll or look at that doll she's going to remember papa, and even when she is not around that doll i think she we'll still love him
Esperanza is such a caring person with love in her heart because she was happy and kind when her papa was alive. But things been happening to Esperanza like her house was burned down so bad things been happening so Esperanza is having an hard time.In the text it says that she did not like poor people. This shows that she has changed.
I am writing about Abuelita, she loves Esperanza. she likes to crochet with esperanza.In the book there is a fire at their house and abuelita got hurt.she could not walk and she was laying on the bed in alfonso house. Alfonso sister came over and took abuelita to there house.
I picked Esperanza because she was always loyal,and rich. When she became poor her trait changed.When she was on the train a poor little girl reached out to grab the doll,but Esperanza pulled the doll away showing selfishness.You can find this on page 69.
First Esperanza was nice then when her dad died and her house got burnt down. Then her then her personality change I know this because she was not nice to the girl on the train when she wanted to play with her doll.
Esperanza is a nice loving girl she was nice to her servants and friends, but when her papa died everything change. She was sad and her uncles were not helping the family get through tough times Tio Luis burnt down mamas house. Tio Luis ask her mom to marry him. And She went richest to rag.
I picked Esperanza to talk about. When she was in Mexico in her home she was kind,loving,and caring. After Papa dies her personality is way different. For example,when she was on the train when the little poor girl wanted her doll. Esperanza quickly jerked the doll away. I think she would've let her see the doll but she just got that doll for her birthday before Papa died.

What I think about Esperanza's character trait is that she is a loving and kind girl. Maybe Esperanza was mean to the little girl on the train , but she still has a great heart.When Esperanza was on the locomotive this little girl said," MONA", and ran up to Esperanza and tried to touch her doll .So then Esperanza tugged away and the little girl ran to her mom and started to cry.
this is Tyson from campus elementary and what i think about Tio louis is his character trait is very mean.I think he's mean because he killed his brother papa just so he could get his wife, And he also had the nervs to set the house on fire after he killed papa ,and he rolled papa up the street and had papa under a cover.

Uncle Tio is an evil, corrupt, and annoying man. He burned up the family's home and basically forced the mother to say she would marry him after Papa died. (Nevaeh, Mary, Alliah, Celeste, Willie)
Marta is mean, extremely rude, and argumentative. She went about trying to get people to go on strike in a bossy way. She also talked about people (ie Papa, the workers) in a negative way. (Ms. Toronto, Keviona, Alliah)
Hi this is Shamiya from campus elementary and my character is tio luis and my question is why do you think tio luis tried to send esperanza to boarding school?

The charter that I chosen is Esperanza because she tell her mom the bad chooses and the bad chooses and why. Also because she sounds nice and really need some help with her lives. So that's my character that I had chosen.

The character I chose is Ramona Esperanza's Mama she is usually bright and cheery although when she could see Papa dead she was very distraught about it but still almost held her tears in. she is strong and very good with rejection even if threatened but when someone threatens her family she will truly do anything.

The character I chose was Papa. Papa was a very kind and respectable man. He cared for his family, friends, workers, and land. He was very kind to everyone especially to Esperanza even though she was not a boy. I chose Papa because he was never mad,sad, or rude. He is quite the opposite of his brothers Senor Tio Luis and Senor Tio Marco.
The character that I picked is Tio Luis. And tio luis is a awful man he at first was so nice but then he killed his brother. And then tried to get papa wife to marry him, but she said no so then he burned down their house. and then he asked her again and she said yeah, so then he let her stay at his house but mama had a plan to move far away so tio luis won’t be mean. So Tio Luis is so rude.
The character I picked is Papa. He was a wonderful guy until he died I would like to know WHY DID HE DIE tell me why until his own brother tried to marry his wife now ain’t that's something. Papa was a wonderful guy his daughter loved him so much she would not even let him marry her mom
