Pricked by a Thorn (superstition)

What thoughts come to Esperanza after she pricks her finger on a thorn? What purpose may the author have to write about this superstition? Can you find research about this superstition to give you more information?

  8. When Esperanza went to pick a rose, she pricked her finger on the beautiful rose and her first thought was. Bad luck ,but every one was not worried every thought it was no big deal. They always thought the bad luck would be just like dropping an egg on the ground, but Esperanza thought other wise. She was still very worried something bad would happen. In the next chapter I think from the last paragraph papa died ,and with the bandents on the lose they will be in BIG PROBLEM!

  9. The thought that Esperanza had after she pricks her finger is she thinks bad luck. Looking toward the horizon, she saw the last of the sun disappear behind the Sierra Madre. Darkness would settle quickly, and a feeling of uneasiness and worry nagged her.

  10. The superstition that pricking your finger on a rose thorn and it bleeding being bad luck is probably based on the real superstition that if you prick your finger on a rose thorn, you will lose money.
After Esperanza got her finger finger pricked by the rose, she immediately thought about the bandits who were killing wealthy people and how Papa was very wealthy. She knew about them because as she was talking to Mama, she mentioned that she had overheard Papa's friends warning him about the bandits. It didn't help that he was late, either.
It isn't directly related to Esperanza's feeling of dread, but there were many hints that something bad would happen, like Esperanza wishing to stay with her parents forever. This is called foreshadowing.

  16. I believe that the story included Esperanza pricking her finger on a rose because as soon as that happened her whole life just went downhill from there. Her papa died her house was burnt her uncles threatened her and her mom she had to move to america her mom got sick and then her money got stolen.
