Beginning in November, all 5th grade students in Grand Rapids Public Schools will be reading this book and blogging about their reading experience. There will be questions posed to the students, posts written and shared from different classrooms and four "Great Days of Blogging". The final celebration will be held with a visit from the author in March 2016.

How are details used to form the rising action of the plot?
Find three connected details and explain how they are part of a rising action in the story. Does this help you predict some choices Esperanza and her mother will have to make later in the story?
The details are that her dad died and also that they moved.
