Beginning in November, all 5th grade students in Grand Rapids Public Schools will be reading this book and blogging about their reading experience. There will be questions posed to the students, posts written and shared from different classrooms and four "Great Days of Blogging". The final celebration will be held with a visit from the author in March 2016.

Striking
Do you think the farm workers could improve their lives without striking? Why or why not?
No because if they don't work they wouldn't have money they will have nothing to eat and starve to death and Esperanza wouldn't have money to get Abuelita to California. Frida Sherwood Park Mrs. Thayer
I think Esperanza's family should not strike because if they go back to Mexico, who would take care of mama and the uncles would see that Esperanza is here, but not her mom. Alexander Sherwood Mrs.Thayer
i think Esperanza family should not strike because if they go back to mexico word might get around to tio louis that's why i think Esperanza family should not strike.campus elementary
Yes, because if they strike they could get deported and if they don't strike they could help each other out by giving each other money and food. I am Miguel from Dickinson Academy.
I believe that striking is necessary when people are not treated fairly. The farm workers deserve a good life and if they don't get it, they have the right to strike until they can be treated fairly. Innocent from DICKINSON ACADEMY.

They could not improve their lives by striking because there were so many people that could easily replace them that if they striked, they would simply be sent back to Mexico and replaced. Their living conditions would not improve and probably actually get worse.

Yes because they would get money to work and provide their families.
