Beginning in November, all 5th grade students in Grand Rapids Public Schools will be reading this book and blogging about their reading experience. There will be questions posed to the students, posts written and shared from different classrooms and four "Great Days of Blogging". The final celebration will be held with a visit from the author in March 2016.

Welcome to the first official day of the Esperanza Rising blog. Hopefully you have all begun reading the book and are excited to share comments. Today, describe the geographical setting where Esperanza lives.
They also had a grape yard. And also had a big house that was cleaned by servants.They also had land workers that planted flowers and took care of the grapes.
My family is from Guatemala.My dad is buying land it is about twenty five acres.We also have land workers that plant fruit seeds like bananas or tomato.
The setting of the story was a ranch called El Rancho de Las Rosas. At the El Rancho de Las Rosas it have beautiful flowers and sweet grapes with leafy green vines flowing threw them with valleys and mountains.
The EL Rancho de las rosas is the ranch that esperanza lived on.The ranch had a big beautiful house with a rose garden.With an orchard of grapes and cabins for the workers that work in the grape field.
Why is Marta so mean to Esperanza because when they were at the party Marta had came and started a strike and put a strike on food and stuff like that.
The story occurs in Mexico at El Rancho de Rosas. El Rancho de Rosas has a large vineyard and also many other animals. The vineyard has slopes and small hills, and the ranch is surrounded by mountains on three sides and a large hill on one. It happens in 1930. Esperanza's family was very rich, but they also helped other people by giving them land, food and a job. -Daphne
